I am becoming the dry-wall mud queen. I did the seams in the kitchen walls as well as the ceiling. My shoulders were aching after looking at the ceiling all day.
When doing the seem of the walls you after mud the seam first and get the mud in the crack. Then you press on dry-wall tape, which is really paper with a crease down the middle of it to create your 90 degree angle of where your ceiling and wall meet.
You have to smooth the mud and make as little marks as possible so you have less sanding to do once it dries.
